Kasavu and Temple Gold
Sandra's bridal look was the kind that makes elders nod in approval. A cream tissue saree with a broad vermilion and gold border was paired with a red blouse embroidered in gold thread, and over it she wore layer upon layer of traditional jewellery: a kasu mala, an emerald-set choker, a jewelled waist belt, and gold bangles stacked almost to the elbow over deep mehendi. Jasmine sat in her side-swept braid, a maang tikka rested on her brow, and her lips were a decisive red. Nakul complemented her without competing – a cream silk kurta with a finely embroidered neckline over a white Kasavu mundu, a gold-bordered melmundu across one shoulder, and a pair of gold rimmed sunglasses that he wore with complete conviction for most of the day.
Between Orange Walls
For a second set of portraits, Sandra changed into a rich purple silk saree shot through with gold. Ochre and terracotta walls, white pillars, a kolam chalked onto the grey stone steps, gave these frames a weight that a studio never could. Nakul and Sandra sat close on the verandah bench, leaned into each other beneath the portraits, and in one image simply held on, her face buried in his shoulder. It looked less like a shoot and more like a couple coming home.
The Softer Frames
Away from the colour and the crowd, we photographed Sandra against pale walls and a drifting sheer curtain, the gold of her saree glowing in the diffused light. A hand raised to her face, mehendi patterns spread across the palm. Her arm wrapped around Nakul's from behind, bangles against his sleeve. Nakul grinning up at her from beneath his shades while she rested her chin on his head.
From the Team at Wedding Bells
Some weddings are about grandeur; this one was about texture. The weave of the kasavu, the weight of the gold, the grain of an old wooden verandah, the softness of a curtain in afternoon light. Nakul and Sandra gave us all of it, and they gave it with an ease that made every frame feel unforced. To Nakul and Sandra, thank you for a wedding that wore its tradition so lightly and so well. May your life together be as steady as the old walls you sat beneath and as bright as the gold you carried into it.
