A Church, a Veil, and Very Little Else

Aju and Taniya's wedding was elegant in the way that only very simple things can be; a white gown, a dark suit, a church, and a family that showed up in full – and at Wedding Bells we were glad to be on time for it too. We photographed Taniya before the ceremonies at the church. Her look was pared back and precise: a square-necked lace gown with fine straps, a low sleek bun, a diamond choker with a single oval pendant, drop earrings, and a cathedral-length veil. No excess anywhere, and all the more striking for it.
Her bridesmaids gathered around her in butter-yellow dresses, each carrying a bouquet of deep red blooms that set the whole palette humming.

Down the Aisle

Taniya's father, in a pale grey suit, walked her out of the house, past her mother in a red-and-gold silk saree, and later through the carved wooden doors of the church with her hand tucked into his arm. Inside, the aisle stretched long and bright beneath the altar's crucifix, the pews framed with floral arches. Aju waited at the front in a dark pinstripe suit, cream tie, glasses, beard – the picture of a groom who had thought about every detail and then stopped worrying about all of them.

Beneath the Veil

The ceremony was quiet and full of intent. Taniya's face beneath the veil, softly lit and utterly still. Aju's hand steady as the ring was placed. On a wooden tray nearby, the day's smallest treasures were arranged: a ring box marked with their names and the deep red silk of the Manthrakodi folded beside them – tradition and modernity lying side by side, the way they did throughout this wedding. When the vows were done, the couple walked back down the aisle together, Taniya laughing, Aju grinning at the pews, and the whole church seemed to exhale at once.

From the Team at Wedding Bells

Aju and Taniya reminded us that restraint is its own kind of beauty. Nothing about this wedding shouted, and nothing needed to. The gown, the suit, the church, the light – each was chosen with care and then allowed to simply be. It made our job a pleasure. To Aju and Taniya, thank you for a day that was as composed and as warm as the two of you. May your years together be long, well timed, and full of the kind of quiet that you found outside the church that night.
